Night Unexpected
6/1/02
Sea of black mutes the lone
The ones cast off by the crowd
The ones seeking harmony
Invisible, they dream
Droplets of bright fire in the void
Speak of warm kitchens, fresh bread
Grandmotherly smiles
And the outlawing of scathing sorrow
Cast about like sand,
The speckles of light grow closer
Thousands of souls brought together
Yet sadly remain apart
Lovers with thousands of miles between
A few clumps of blinding sunlight
Scream out from the sea and sand,
Wailing like a mother that just found her son
Dead on the battlefield
The light reaches out and cries for life
Wishes for truth and burns for compassion
Oh, to be in the ocean of black
Oh, to live and oh, to love
