The Wanderer

2/3/00

He’s driving down the road
Endless streams of lights fading
Into cold blackness
Out of town he drives
The highway is his soulmate

She’s on his mind again –
Again – how can one say again
When she has never been gone?

In his sleep, she wanders
Traversing old pathways,
Carving new ones,
And running in between

His eyes on the road, in a trance
Sedate with darkness and soft music
He wonders what she feels
Does she ever wonder of him?

The man turns, goes back home
Glances at the stars
One streaks past, caught by his eye
He knows his wish, his desire

The star falls too swiftly –
He hasn’t the time to even dream his wish.
The fleeting moment passes,
Leaving him to wander once again.
